Summary-
God tells Ezekiel the duties of a watchman. When danger comes, the watchman blows the trumpet to warn the people of the city. If the people ignore the warning and die, then their blood is on their own hands. But if the watchman doesn't warn the people and they die, then their blood is on the watchman's hands. He is given a responsibility. He is accountable for those people he was given charge over.
Definition:
Accountability-
Subject to the obligation to report, explain, or justify something; responsible; answerable.
**In the same way, we are given a responsibility when we received Christ's gift of salvation. We are now watchmen for others. When fellow Christians are sinning and we know it, we must confront them about it- lest we are sinning as well. **
Question: Do you have an accountability partner that confronts you when you are in the wrong and helps you grow in your walk with God? Do they rejoice with you in your times of celebration or share in the sorrows of a loss?
~God doesn't want us to walk in this life alone. It's extremely difficult to mange through life, so why not use the body of the church as it was intended for- fellowship. Proverbs 27:17 says: "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." God created us with a desire for relationships with one another. Find someone your gender, whether they be your age or older, and start being accountable for one another. As the saying goes "two heads are better than one." =)
